The Battle Pair reflects on a “buddy” system that was implemented into the Army, post 9-11 when the number of suicides began to incline. The system ensured that GI’s were looking out for one another. A battle buddy not only provides camaraderie, but also helps minimize suicide risks in fellow soldiers. This complementary duo is always checking each other’s six o’clock.
The Battle chair and table combine mid century principals with an atomic-age flair. The jumbo looped boucle upholstery is backed with batting, sewn, and wrapped around baltic birch frames. The pattern routed walnut feet, table top and c-ring arm rest are finished in natural oil before mounting to the upholstered bodies. The hardwood walnut arm of the Battle Chair acts as an upper-body rest point and conceals the upholstery edges where the front and back fabrics converge. Several curved “puzzle tracks” are pattern routed and joined to create the ‘C’ shape, which attaches to the chair using wooden dowels.
