RINGLING SERVICE CART

RINGLING

SERVICE CART

Thoughtfully crafted in 2022

The Ringling Cart was inspired by a classic circus wagon, which crated animals for caravan from town to town. The cage, represented by the vertical dowels, is open and still allows for functional access to the lower shelf. This piece is a reflection of exploitation and beautifies something that is innately ugly about the modern consumer.

METICULOUS CHOICES

Lumber selection for this piece was meticulously chosen to add more textural depth. Using both traditional and unconventional joinery, the eyes naturally follow the intricate line work designed into this cart. The vertical dowels and horizontal bumpers act as a buffer to prevent contents from shifting off the shelves. The “puzzle” joints are an intricate wood joinery type not yet seen in traditional craft and highlight technological routing capabilities. There is a constant battle with traditional craftsman and computerized manufacturing, but I argue that both still require a firm grasp of wood grain and an aptitude for bladed tooling.
