SERIF DINING

ARM & SIDE CHAIR

Thoughtfully crafted in 2024

Just as with the rest of the Serif Chair series, the motif is born from graphic design fundamentals which guide the form’s detail. This is why it made sense to pull from the established messaging of the serif typeface family, a typography that represents reliability and trustworthiness. This gave me the options to play with various features of the chair by adding and playing with “tails and feet”. The signature focus would inevitably be to cap the arms and back rest with a rounded terminal-style claw & ear, then dot them with the brass inlays.

The joinery would also highlight contemporary manufacturing techniques by using puzzle tabs to join the connecting parts. After each side is produced, the stretchers are glued in place, the piece is sanded & oiled, then tediously hand woven with danish cording.

The claws of the Serif dining arm chair needed to set back within chair compared to its lounge chair counterpart. We did this to prevent any obstacle of maneuvering between the table and chair itself. As a result a quite beautiful form was created.
