WOOBIE (4-DOOR) SIDEBOARD

WOOBIE (4-DOOR)

SIDEBOARD CREDENZA

Thoughtfully crafted in 2021

When designing this sideboard credenza, I wanted to reflect on my time in the armed forces. “Woobie” is a military jargon term given to the U.S. issued poncho liner and named for the comfort it provides, similar to that of a child’s security blanket. They are primarily used in field operations and are a staple to every soldiers deployment and training kits. With that, the iconic quilted green fabric would become the primary feature of this piece by filling the cabinet’s door frames with the iconic reflective ripstop.

GUIDANCE AS AN ANALOGY

The walnut case is supported with a pair of “compass” legs. These were inspired by a divider compass, which is used in land navigations to help soldiers map distances for navigating different landscapes. This helps ensure we get our comrades home. Embellished with brass dowel, the leg profile elevates this piece to reflect an appreciation for my invaluable time in the U.S. Army.
